ually when you think of the colder months, going to the zoo does not even come close to coming to mind. However, I certainly recommend checking out the Denver Zoo and their Zoo Lights. It is a ton of fun and there is always something cool to see or do. Ad in a little snow and it turns into a winter wonderland with all of the creative lights that will certainly be something you remember!
They have constant activities going on including penguin feeding, decorating your own lantern and entertainment. Check out the Denver Zoo’s website for updated information and times for these events.
Of course going to the zoo is a kid friendly environment where they even have an area to visit Santa, but it is also set up for those adults who still want to be kids. They have several tents and stands set up through out the zoo with little munchies and hot chocolate. Some 
stands even offer some peppermint schnapps to make your hot chocolate high octane. Best part about that is you can carry it around with you while in the zoo. There is no “Beer Garden” that you have to be corralled into.
I suggest allotting about 1-1.5 hours for walking through it all. It is really hard to get lost as they have certain areas blocked off so you will just keep going in a circle. Unfortunately most of the animals are tucked in for the night, but you can still walk through the elephant, giraffe and hippopotamus areas to check them out and find some warmth.
To save time, be sure to buy your tickets early as the long line you see when first getting to the zoo is for tickets and to actually get into the gate is very short. Denver Zoo Lights is open 5:30-9pm from November 30th- January 2nd
